Pink Lake

Pink Lake

31 January 2021

Officially known as Hutt Lagoon, Pink Lake is a salt lake with a pink hue due to the presence of the carotenoid producing algae, Dunaliella salina.

This algae is a source of beta-carotene, used as a food-colouring agent and source of Vitamin A in cosmetics and supplements.

Driving from Kalbarri, you’ll see your first glimpse of the lagoon within 30 minutes.

Its vibrancy changes with the seasons and time of day and best time to visit is on a clear day, around mid-morning or sunset. Head out before sunset and watch the colours transform!

There are a number of places to stop and view this natural phenomenon along Port Gregory Road.

Pink Lake is a favourite amongst photographers and a worthy addition to your Instagram pics.

It is also a spectacular sight as part of a Scenic Flight.
